1st Trimester Summary 2018

​

Dear Parents,

Since the report card represents a small area of what your child experiences in PE, we want to share some highlights of the activities we worked on during 1st trimester. Underlined activities include Kindergarten.

​

  • MINDFULNESS – school goal that is incorporated into Physical Education to help students listen, focus, and make good choices.

  • AMAZING 8 – teaches coordination across the midline.  Ask your student to demonstrate

  • SPIKE BALL – teaches teamwork and hand /eye coordination

  • CHASING AND FLEEING GAMES – Snake in the Grass , Weed Wacker, Tigers Loose, Frozen Bridge Tag, Tiger Tail Tag, Sponge Bob Tag, Witch Pumpkin Tag, and Haunted House.

  • PLAYGROUND BALL ACTIVITIES – catching, throwing, kicking, 4 Square.  Kindergarten also used Success balls to toss and catch

  • HULA HOOP – learned how to hula, spinning, rolling, jumping

  • SOCCER SKILLS – foot dribbling, ball control, passing, shooting, goalie, defender, and forward.  Mass Soccer, Rotation Soccer, and Pin Down are modified versions of the game.

  • FOOTBALL – quarterback, receiver, pass routes, offense, defense and Touch Down Toss lead up game

  • OVERHAND THROW – emphasizing side orientation, T, L, Step and Throw. Lead up games:  Spot Challenge, Planet Ball

  • UNDERHAND THROW – emphasizing swing arm back, step with opposition, and throw. Lead up games:  Spot Challenge, Clean Up Your Own Back Yard

  • ABC EXERCISES – P – Piano Keys, L – Low Planks, D – Disco Jacks, H – Helicopter Arms, W – Waking Giants, T – 10x Frankenstein, B – Burpees, and M – Mountain Climbers

  • THRILLER DANCE – dance is one of many ways to be physically active.

  • VOLLEYBALL – balloons learning high, medium, low levels as well as strong and light force.  Progressed to bump, set, serve, rotation, and rules/strategy using beach balls and volleyball trainers

  • TABATA – interval training to music for warm ups

  • STATIONS – roller racers, team building activities, tennis, spider balls, building bricks, fling it nets, juggling,

  • RHYTHMIC RIBBONS – rainbow, windshield wiper, lasso, snake, figure 8, tornado, fishing, name writing in the air, and movement to music.  Each student learned how to get the knots out of their own ribbons.

  • COLD HARD CASH – cooperative game that provides a way to count money while integrating various fitness activities.  Each team works on persistence and teamwork to earn the opportunity to turn over buckets that contain the large bills.

  • WHAT'S IN YOUR PIGGY BANK – this game emphasizes fitness while introducing money recognition and team work

 

PE ALWAYS FOLLOWS ART ON THE ABC SCHEDULE
